Welcome
What's your interest in a particular company? Are you a prospective employee, a supplier, or a competitor?
The aim of this guide is to help make your search easier and quicker.
Be warned - even the most thorough search may not yield as much information as you would like.
If a company is not listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX), it is required to disclose very little about its operations. There are about 1.6 million companies in Australia and only around 2000 of them are listed on the ASX.
There will be even less information available about sole traders and partnerships (see the brief guide to Australian business structures).
Nevertheless, you should be able to find some basic information on any business.
Use the tabs across the top of the page to learn more about what information can be found. See the First questions tab next.
Most of the online services mentioned in this guide are available free of charge to registered users of the State Library of Victoria.
If you would like to discuss your business information requirements, or would like to find out more about our training programs, please phone or email me.
This is a perpetual work in progress. If you detect errors, or if you can suggest other information sources or approaches to the topic, please contact me.
