Guide to finding photographs, illustrations and other images in the State Library of Victoria's collections

Use of copies in publication or display

Photographic copies of collection items can be provided as digital files.

The Library no longer requires you to formally apply for permission to publish or display copies of items from the collections that are out of copyright, provided that appropriate acknowledgement is given to the creator and the State Library Victoria as the source.

Collection items that include Indigenous content are an exception to this policy, and will always require prior permission, irrespective of the copyright status.

If you wish to reproduce Library material in a publication or display, please state which collection an item has been sourced from. See below for the correct form of acknowledgement:
