This is the best all-in-one website for Australian law. It includes both legislation and law reports from all the states and the Commonwealth. It also provides links to overseas law sites.

This is a well constructed, elegant website that belies the amazing density of legal information held and processed. On the downside, the density of material flowing into it means that it is not always completely up-to–date. Links to the Commonwealth and all the states can be found in the bar across the top of the Austlii home page. Austlii is systematically loading older legislation and law reports from all areas as they become available and most States now have material from the early 20th Century and even complete sets from the colonial period onward. Keep in mind that one of the benefits of using Austlii is the fact that it is all in one place and it is all in a similar format.

Australian government websites directory
This website provides the links to all the government home pages around Australia and the peak body dealing with local governments Australia wide. This can be useful if you are looking for the latest versions of acts.

These websites usually give links to other parliamentary and government documents.

Each site is different but most provide a similar range of information. Look for a link to 'Legislation', or use the search box, and this should take you to the right place.

Older interstate legislation

The State Library has good collection of older legislation in print but does not collect the reprinted legislation. To find what interstate legislation we hold try a search like this "south australia" AND (statute OR acts) or tasmania AND (statute OR acts) for the relevant state.

In some cases it may be better for us to ask our sister State Library in the relevant state for a copy of the required legislation as they may have a more complete set with all the reprints.

Try the relevant State Library with your enquiry if we do not have the full set of legistation.
