How to find current, historical and online newspapers


The Library has many special interest newspapers including sporting, religious, financial, political, illustrated, and rural affairs newspapers. There are also many newspapers published for various ethnic communities, including many in languages other than English. See foreign language newspapers for more information.

Find by subject or user tags

Some special interest newspapers have been 'tagged' by registered users of the State Library of Victoria. Others have been given subject descriptions by Librarians. Keyword searches can be made for various types of newspapers which have been given subject descriptions. Some popular user tags for special interest newspapers are listed below. Early sporting newspapers

This La Trobe Journal article, written by Deirdre Willmott, lists and summarizes the major sporting newspapers in early Victoria- and Australia.
