Welcome to State Library Victoria's guide to health and welfare records.

The purpose of this guide is to assist family historians to find historical health and welfare records. Focusing on Victorian records, this guide provides information and links to resources that are available at State Library Victoria and other relevant agencies.

The records discussed in this guide reflect Australia in a historical context and the information within may not reflect current understanding. Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are advised that these records may contain information which may be considered culturally sensitive and may cause distress, including names and images of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people now deceased.

This guide is a perpetual work in progress. If you find errors or can suggest other information sources, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best of luck with your research!
