About votes and proceedings

Votes and proceedings are the minutes of the chambers, they set out what the chambers have done rather than what was said (see Hansard).

Since the establishment of the two chambers of the Tasmanian Parliament, the title Journals has been used for the minutes of both the houses. The title Votes and proceedings was used for the minutes of the Legislative Council of Van Diemen’s Land before 1856.

Votes and proceedings are not published as a separate series but are included in volumes with the parliamentary parliamentary papers, currently titled Journals and printed papers of the Parliament of Tasmania. State Library Victoria holds up until 2009 in print, from 2013 onwards they are available in a digital format through National edeposit on Trove.

The Tasmanian Parliament website also gives full text access for votes and proceedings from 1992 onwards, and includes search functionality.
