Introduction


The Library's Family History collections contain a wide range of materials as well as guides to sources held in other libraries and archives. Other Library collections - such as newspapers, manuscripts and the books can also be useful for family history research.

Organisations

  • Koorie Heritage Trust Family History Service
  • Connecting Home - community organisation taking on the services offered by Stolen Generations Victoria, which was established after a 2003 Victorian Government report.
  • Link-Up Victoria - organisation working to help people who were adopted, institutionalised or forcibly removed to trace their family.
  • Find and Connect - brings together resources from the 1840's, searchable by place, name of person and location of records.
  • Family history - from AIATSIS. Their web site pulls together the range of records available, links to state records repositories, and the Aboriginal Biographical Index created form items held in their collections.

Public Record Office Victoria

  • Koorie Records Unit - oversees the wide range of records including Aboriginal Welfare Board and mission, reserve and station records and the Koorie Index of names project. Information on guidelines for access are included and guides to researching Koorie history.
