FAQs

Why do members now need a password when they haven’t previously?

We are always seeking to improve the security of the library systems for our members. These improvements bring access to the catalogue and the associated member information into line with current security standards and government guidelines.

Do I have to sign in again separately to access eresources?

No, with this change, members* only need to sign in once to access the full suite of catalogue features and eresources from home.

If you sign in to the catalogue, you will be automatically authenticated for eresources. The reverse is also true: if you first sign in to an eresource then access the catalogue, you won't need to re-enter your credentials. Please note that you are not automatically logged into your account, but once you select the Sign in button, you will be taken straight through to your account.

* This refers specifically to members who are Victorian residents and are therefore eligible to access to eresources from home. Non-Victorian members do not have access to eresources offsite.

I can’t set my password. What do I do?

I've forgotten my membership number. What do I do?

If you have forgotten your membership number, you can now sign in using your registered email address instead. Alternatively, you can retrieve your lost membership details.

If this fails to retrieve your number, either your account has expired, or we have a different email address for you. You will need to re-register.

I've forgotten my email address. Where can I get help?

If you are not sure which email address you used to create your account, contact the Library on 03 8664 7000 or via Ask a Librarian.

I'm not able to sign in. What should I do?

First check that your membership number or email address and password are correct.

Ensure that there are no spaces before or after the text of your membership number, email address, or password. This can happen if you copy and paste your details from elsewhere; for example, if you are using password management software. Try typing your details into the Sign in page manually.

If you still cannot sign in, contact the Library on 03 8664 7000 between 10am and 6pm, or via Ask a Librarian.
