Find statistics from Australian censuses from 1788 to present
The Australian census was first collected nationally in 1911. Censuses were then held in 1911, 1921, 1933, 1947 and 1954, before the introduction of regular censuses every five years from 1961.
Between 1901 and 1911, statistics were collected by each state individually. Consult the Census history and Aboriginal Australians sections of this research guide for more information.
Statistics from these censuses can be found in the following resources. No information about individuals is available.
